The U.P. Khadi and Village Industries Board is executing the Chief Minister Village Industries Employment Scheme of the District Sector and the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme Scheme of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission.
The U.P. Khadi and Village Industries Board plays an important role in the field of rural industrialization. It is directly linked with the uplifting of the rural economy, Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes, minorities, women, persons with disabilities, ex-servicemen, and backward classes.
Even today, promoting traditional skills in rural areas holds great potential for development. By training educated unemployed youth in rural regions, the Board provides financial assistance to help them establish industries of their choice in their own villages.
"Khadi" means any cloth woven on handlooms in India from hand-spun cotton, silk, or woollen yarn, or from a mixture of two or all such yarns.
"Village Industry" means any industry located in a rural area which produces any goods or renders any service with or without the use of power, and in which the capital investment (in plant, machinery, land, and building) per artisan or worker does not exceed fifty thousand rupees. The term "rural area" defined for this purpose includes all revenue villages and towns with a population of up to 20 thousand.
