Board has 5 government and 7 non-government member under section 5, sub-section -1 of Act. As a result of amendment in Board Act in July, 1984, Khadi and Village Industry Minister has been nominated Ex-officio Chairman of the Board. In addition to this, provision has been made to nominate one full time Vice Chairman among the 7 non-government member.

Objective of Board

The objective of khadi and village industry to generate more and more employment by setting up small industry in rural area with low investment and strengthen the rural economy.

Duties of Board

Duties of Board as per section- 15 of the Act are as follows:

• Setting up of khadi and village industry, its organization, development and regulation and implementation of scheme prepared by him.
• Preparation of plan for training of persons engaged in production of khadi and other village industry and having interest in it and organize training program.
• Construction of safe warehouse for storage of raw-material and equipment and provide it the person engaged in production of khadi and village industry on such subsidized rate as it is suitable in the opinion of the board.
• Arrangement of advertisement and sale-purchase of khadi and village industry products.
• Research in methods of khadi production and ensure solution of the problems related to development of village industry.
• Monitoring of organizations set up for development of khadi and village industry products or helps in their maintenance.
• Production of khadi and village industry product, provide help and motivate them.
• Coordination between persons engaged in khadi and village industry and organizations which includes cooperative societies also.
• Promote cooperative efforts in persons engaged in khadi and village industry by khadi producers and motivate them.
• Implementation of other activities which has been decided by state government.
